How Does Kybella Work?

Are you struggling to get rid of your dreaded double chin?  You can banish it for good with Kybella.  Kybella is a non-surgical treatment that melts away fat below the chin, and improves chin and neck contours.   Kybella is unique, because it is the only injectable treatment for submental fat.  But how does Kybella work.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA approved cosmetic injectable treatment for moderate-to-severe submental fat beneath the chin, commonly known as a double chin.   Kybella has become the treatment of choice for many people looking for a non-surgical alternative to chin liposuction.

How Does Kybella Work?

Synthetic deoxycholic acid is the active ingredient in Kybella.  Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the body and helps with the digestion of dietary fat.

When Kybella is injected into the subcutaneous fat beneath the chin, it breaks down the membrane of the fat cells, causing the fat to dissolve.   The dead fat cells are processed and eliminated by the body over the following weeks.  Since Kybella destroys the fat cells, the chin and neck area will look noticeably trimmer within a few weeks of treatment (learn more).

How many Kybella treatments are needed?

Clients typically need 2 – 3 treatments to achieve optimal results with Kybella, but there are people that may require up to 6 treatments.  Each treatment session takes 15-20 minutes.  The number of Kybella sessions needed depends on the volume of fat beneath the chin, so it will vary for each client.
