How Does Kybella Work

Is your double chin getting you down?  You can melt away that excess fat under your chin with Kybella.  Kybella is a quick, convenient, injectable treatment that can give you the contoured neckline you’ve long desired.  But how does Kybella work?

What Is Kybella

Kybella is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid.  Deoxycholic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the body, and helps to breakdown and absorb dietary fat.

Kybella is the first FDA approved injectable treatment for submental fullness i.e. fat under the chin, also known as a double chin.  Submental fullness affects both men and women, and is usually the result of weight gain, aging, or genetics.

How Does Kybella Work

Kybella is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat below the chin and breaks apart the membrane of the fat cells, causing the cells to die.  The treated fat cells are no longer able to store fat and since there are fewer fat cells in the area, the jawline looks slimmer and more defined.

Most people need 2-4 Kybella treatments to achieve optimal results.   Sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Are You A Good Candidate For Kybella?

If you have unwanted fat below your chin that you haven’t been able to reduce with diet and exercise, you may be a good candidate for Kybella.  Ideal candidates should also have good skin elasticity because Kybella only removes fat, it does not tighten the skin.

Kybella is a good option for people interested in a non-surgical solution for their double chin.  It is always best to consult with a trained Kybella provider, to determine if Kybella is the right option for you.
