Do Injections for Double Chin Work?

Is the fat below your chin ruining your profile but you’re not interested in a surgical fix? There is now a less invasive injectable treatment available for double chins, and it’s called Kybella. Kybella is an excellent option for people with good skin elasticity, as it does not tighten the skin. But do injections for double chin work.

Kybella injections for double chin

Kybella is a completely non-surgical treatment that is FDA cleared for treating submental fat or the fat beneath the chin. It is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, and assists with the breakdown of dietary fat.

The deoxycholic acid in Kybella breaks down the under-chin fat by disrupting the cell membrane. This leads to cell destruction and reduces the double chin, resulting in a slimmer, more refined profile.

Kybella injections break down fat, and the fat cells that are treated are gone for good. However, the results are not immediate, as there is generally some swelling after treatment that takes several days to resolve. Consequently the results of Kybella occur gradually, but most patients start to see changes after about 4-6 weeks. Full improvement takes about 3 months.

A single Kybella treatment consists of several injections, and each session lasts for about 15-20 minutes. Patients will typically undergo a series of 2-4 sessions to get optimal results, depending on the amount of fat that needs to be treated.
